La Nuova Sala Parrocchiale

Our old “Maria Hall” is small and inappropriately situated on the second floor of the rectory, with no lift.  Several years have passed since our community first aspired to building a new parish hall. After a lengthy bureaucratic process, all the necessary approvals have finally been attained for its construction, and work is still in progress.

The new Hall will face the church square, to the west of the rectory.  Its location puts it in close proximity to the primary school, the urban bus terminal and the recreational and sports facility complex called “Skating Rink”.  It will therefore be in the center of the village, with good visibility, easy access and a big parking lot.

The one-storey building will cover 130 sqm. (155 sqyd) for the Parish Hall and also have a basement of the same dimensions. The new Hall will not only serve a spiritual purpose, but will also provide a social, cultural, formative and recreational role on the territory. The number of potential users is about 30,000 people.  It will be an essential meeting point not only for Sant'Angelo in Campo, but also for all the neighbouring towns located in Lucca’s western plain, between the City Walls and the Serchio River.

Financial resources to meet the project costs have been made available, first of all, by our Parish of San Michele Arcangelo in Sant’Angelo in Campo, by CEI (the Italian Episcopal Conference), by the two banking foundations of Lucca, by the local associations (Garbotta, Activity Group, Antipollution Committee, Family Group etc.) and by many anonymous private citizens who have wanted to donate funds targeted to the realisation of the Parish Hall.

As at the end of 2021,  funds received would have amply sufficed to cover the estimated pre-Covid project costs of €400,000.  Following a worldwide inflation explosion and the significant price increase in raw materials (cement, iron, wood, etc.) in the building sector, to date we no longer have full financial coverage: there is currently a shortfall of approximately Euro 35,000.

The Sant'Angelo in Campo’s community is pushing forward.  We are pursuing the realisation of that long awaited project and carrying out all the initiatives to guarantee its feasibility, by raising awareness worldwide.
